Detective Joshua Ramey serves in the Special Victims Unit of the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, where he specializes in domestic violence investigations. As one of the primary detectives assigned to the High-Risk Team (HRT), he plays a critical on-the-ground role in protecting survivors at the highest risk of serious harm.
Detective Ramey responds alongside advocates during post-incident follow-ups, ensuring that victims receive immediate support, safety planning, and access to life-saving services. Known for his victim-centered yet uncompromising approach to offender accountability, he brings a deep understanding of both the justice system and the urgency of crisis intervention.
Before joining ACCPD in 2019, Detective Ramey spent over a decade with the Georgia Department of Corrections, where he rose to the rank of Lieutenant. His leadership in supervising correctional staff and managing high-risk operations laid the groundwork for his current work in community-based law enforcement.
Since joining the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, he has completed over 2,430 hours of law enforcement training and holds certifications as a General Instructor, Firearms Instructor, and Emergency Medical Responder. He is a graduate of the Georgia Law Enforcement Professional Management Program and has earned both Intermediate and Advanced POST certifications.
